Good Choices

What choices have you made was a question I was asked today.

I wrote the question down in my trusty Office Depot blue notepad to answer it.
My instinct was to list the ‘bad’ choices, the habits that do not serve me and then—No. I’m not going to do that, I’m going to do the opposite.

I chose instead to write down the choices I made that worked out well, the decisions that turned into something marvellous; lifelong friendships, priceless moments, great financial gains, seeing the world, dedication to handling my business and therefore having peace of mind, being responsible, working smarter and much more.
And as I did so, my trust in my abilities increased. I felt more empowered and actually, I do make f*cking great decisions. The list is proof of that.

We don’t talk up enough our great commitments and how exceptional we’ve been due to what we did, and it’s high time we start.

Spend 5 minutes listing the choices you made, be it big or small, that paid off or flourished or gave you an unforgettable gift.
Relish in what you come up with and commend yourself for being a remarkable human.

I Made It

33 held so much for me. I felt like I couldn’t fully exhale for a few reasons.Give or take the inaccuracies of reported history, Jesus was 33 when he ascended. My late friend was also 33 when he ascended. And a small part of me had come to anticipate that this too could be my …

CAN YOU HEAR YOURSELF?

The constant chatter is overwhelming. One person says this, another person says that. Your mum says it’s this way, your brother says it’s the other. Then there’s the people who love to be contrarian with no actual thoughts of their own, just adept at piggybacking off what a group of people might agree upon and finding a …

Cloudy With A Chance Of…

One day you’re fine, life is good and the air is filled with prospects that you could almost pluck them like the squiggly lines you see when you look at a blue sky. The following day however, you’re freezing your bits off, your umbrella is inside out and the contents of your bag have just …

belief, choices, End of year, Lauryn Hill, life

7 weeks left till the end of the year, what?! Is it me or does it feel like the older you get, the faster things move? Everything seems to be moving at an alarming rate, so I just wanted to check in with you…

At the start of every year we all make promises and resolutions that we swear to stand by and see through, but for some of us that energy and fervency soon wanes and we are back to our regular old selves, annoying right?

Why does it happen? Why does it feel impossible to stick something out to the point of seeing results?

Here’s why I think that is, you just didn’t want it bad enough nor did you believe it was possible, period. Recall a time you wanted something that you eventually got, what did you do in order to achieve it? Like the saying goes when there’s a will there’s a way. I truly believe that whatever you want is attainable as long as you want it. Ok pause, by wanting it, is not to merely wish for it, but for it to incite you to take action, and to take action repeatedly, until results are achieved. Nothing else exists but that thing; if you have not reached this point then it most certainly will be evident in your life.

It is important to acknowledge that whatever you don’t have is because of what you didn’t do. You can’t talk about the body you desire when you sit there and stuff your face all day, or moan about being in debt yet you do nothing to try and change the outcome and instead continue on with the same habits that caused you to be in debt in the first place.

I keep saying this over and over again because I sincerely believe that your outlook on your life will significantly affect the kind of choices you make.

For example, if you always see yourself as being broke even though you receive a regular decent income, you will always find a way to be broke and I’ll tell you why. For starters you keep professing it to yourself and the world that you never have any money (ergh please stop), secondly, because of the first point, this consistent thought process has now become a belief, and thirdly if you have a belief guess what? You’ll act on it-It’s straight forward.

Being “broke” means to lack and indicates something needs fixing. It is how you see money which affects how you use it. “ My money always goes on bills, I never have enough, I’m always broke” such statements (which is a reflection of your belief)  produces the reality that you live in. Sometimes it’s a matter of seeing the glass half full rather than half empty.

I’ll give you another example. I remember watching Lauryn Hill on YouTube some years ago, on ‘Live at the Apollo’. She was thirteen at the time and during her performance, was booed by the audience. I could not believe it! Firstly, because she didn’t sound that great (yes I know she was 13 etc…) but secondly and more importantly, the fact that she didn’t stop singing when she was booed. Lauryn believed in herself so much that those boo’s didn’t mean anything, they might as well have been clapping the whole way through for all she cared. Just imagine what that could do to anyone’s confidence? But it didn’t stop her. Her belief in herself and her ability pushed her to get better and improve, she had her will and she found a way through her desire and belief. I think it is fair to say, that she has produced some of the best music of our generation.

Your perceptions/beliefs govern your life and the way you lead it.

So a few things to remember:

It is not too late to start up, over or pick up from where you left off. Many people wait for the New Year to start a new life. In theory that is fine, but what happens between now and the New Year? Will you continue on with the same old? A lot can happen overnight not to mention in a few weeks, so bare that in mind while you ‘wait’.

Focus your energy on one thing at a time. Dividing your focus means dividing your energy and will effectively create moderate results. Think of it as a bank, if you deposit a little, you get a little back, if you deposit a lot, well you know the rest.

Last but not least, use what you have! People spend way too much time waiting for an opportunity or the right resources to come along. There are assets all around that are at your disposal, be uninhibited and you will find it.

When you want to improve your life there are no quick fixes!
